Actress

Debby ryan

She was born Deborah Ann Ryan on May 13, 1993 in Huntsville, AL. With a father who was in the military, she and her family moved around several times, including living in Wiesbaden, Germany. While there, Ryan participated in school plays and musicals, and decided that she wanted to be an actor at age nine. After three years in overseas, the family moved to Fort Worth, TX, where Ryan attended Fossil Hill Middle and Fossil Ridge High School. In her teens, they moved to Los Angeles, hoping to launch Ryan's acting career. She began landing work in various television commercials and landed roles on the popular children's program "Barney & Friends" (PBS, 1992-97; The WB, 1997- ). Ryan made her feature film debut in the family comedy "The Longshots" (2008), as a popular but mean-spirited girl.

It was not long before Disney Channel gave the aspiring actress guest spots on some of its hit shows like "Hannah Montana" (2006-2011), starring Miley Cyrus as a teen by day leading a double life as a pop singer by night, and on "Wizards of Waverly Place" (2007-2011), starring Selena Gomez as a modern-day teen wizard living with her magical family in New York City. Ryan's career took off when she became a regular on the top-rated Disney Channel series "The Suite Life on Deck," a spin-off the popular show "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" (2005-08), about the hilarious adventures of twin boys Zack and Cody Martin (Dylan and Cole Sprouse) who live in the hotel where their mother works as a lounge singer. "The Suite Life on Deck" centered on the twins attending a semester-at-sea program aboard a ship called the SS Tipton, owned by the billionaire father of London Tipton (Brenda Song), the twins' superficial and dim-witted friend. Ryan played Bailey Pickett, a smart country girl who becomes London's unwilling roommate and Cody's teen crush. Due to her small-town wardrobe and kind personality, Ryan's character was often the brunt of London's jokes, but the two ended up as friends.

Ryan also starred in the Disney Channel TV movie "16 Wishes" (2010), about a teenaged girl whose childhood wishes all come true on the day of her 16th birthday. While Ryan's fanbase was accustomed to seeing her in lighter fare, she surprised them by playing a rebellious teen in the independent film "What If " (2010), starring Kevin Sorbo and Kristy Swanson. In 2011, Ryan was back on the Disney Channel with the title role on "Jessie," about an 18-year-old girl from Texas who becomes an au pair in New York City. Unlike most Disney shows where its lead characters often found themselves embroiled in made-up high school drama, "Jessie" was about a normal teenager who is entering a new phase in her life in a new city. Scoring the lead role on "Jessie" marked a turning point in Ryan's career, introducing her as the network's next big star and eliciting comparisons to former Disney starlets like Hilary Duff, Cyrus and Gomez.

Biography

by AceShowbiz.com

A multi-talented artist of Irish, Native American, Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish extraction, Vanessa Hudgens was born as the oldest daughter of Greg Hudgens and Gina Guangco on December 14, 1988 in Salinas, California. She has a younger sister named Stella who grew up with her in San Diego. Vanessa enrolled in Orange County High School of the Arts before opting a home-school system as soon as she completed the seventh grade. Inheriting a deep fondness for both music and acting from her artistic grandparents, she has developed her knack in those two fields since an early age which then led her to various stage performances in musical theater as a singer starting at the age of eight. With the rich experience, it was not really surprising to later see the girl successfully passed an audition for a commercial that inevitably brought her to the next phase of her life.

Finally moving to Los Angeles with her family, Vanessa wonderfully did not find any difficulties to land more deals for other commercials afterwards, even quickly made her way to shift into show business through an appearance in CBS' sitcom "Still Standing" in 2002. Within one year, she had already encountered her ...
film debut in "Thirteen" (2003), following it with a series of acting stints either for small or big screen such as culminating in Disney Channel's original movie "High School Musical." Premiered in January 2006, the TV movie turned out to be a big success, propelling its teen cast into instant stardom. As successful as the movie itself, the soundtrack album was also a best-seller in the States after ruling at #1 on Billboard Hot 200 for two straight weeks.

The superb outcome of "High School Musical" soundtrack subsequently gave a big effect to Vanessa, who had contributed her voice for several tracks in the CD, particularly in smash hit single "Breaking Free." Not only receiving a great portion of attention from music listeners, she also delightfully found herself signing a recording contract with Hollywood Records, a label owned by Disney, shortly thereafter. The lavish deal was then materialized in debut album "V" which came out on September 26, 2006 in U.S. It did well enough, reaching the 24th rank on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week while spawning two hits songs namely "Come Back to Me" and "When There Was Me and You." She consequently became a teen
idol, receiving a nod for Choice Breakout Singer Female at the 2007 Teen Choice Awards.

On September 6, 2007 controversy arose when several nude photos of Vanessa surfaced on-line, much to the shock of the actress herself and her fans. While speculation was mounting on whether the girl in the pictures was her, a statement released by her publicist confirmed that the photos were indeed genuine, adding that they were taken privately. In a quick public apology released through her representative, the so-called baby V said "I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust mean the world to me. I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends."

Soon after the controversy died down, her career and personal life took over. In October 2007, during an interview with Teen Magazine, she confirmed her romantic relationship with HSM co-star Zac Efron who was also an equally popular star among tweens. In January 2008 it was announced that she will star in big screen comedy "Rock On" (2009) alongside "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow and that her new album was in line. The sophomore set ...
was titled "Identified" and was outed on July 1, 2008 with "Sneakernight" as the first single. Meanwhile, she kept her schedule packed with her reprising act as Gabriella Montez in the "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" which due to its popularity was brought to the big screen. The film is slated to hit the cinema on October 28, 2008.

Japanese singer

SHIINA RINGO

The mainstream image of female singers from the Japanese music industry are that of cutesy high school girls bobbling up and down in groups and 'almost' flashing their underwear. It's hardly anything most people past the age of twenty can look up to although the tunes may be catchy. Shiina Ringo on the other hand is a person that could be admired by both females and males for her music, personality and other talents.

She emits a very different aura and vibe compared to most and although what it feels like has evolved throughout the years, it hasn't ever failed to mystify her fans. She is also quite diverse with her works, sometimes singing crazy semi-screamo rock, sometimes jazz or funk, sometimes a Broadway musical style, or sometimes even standard J-Pop. All of this, in her own distinct and identifiable sound.

Maybe one reason I like her so much is that she came when my musical tastes were at a transition. During high school, I used to like old American hip hop. Although I also liked a diverse style of music back then, that was what I listened to most at the time. After I listened to too much of it and got tired of it, I tried looking for Japanese music as at the time, I couldn't stand listening to most American accents in English songs (Sorry Americans....). I got into Japanese music, mainly J-Pop, since that's the easiest place to start but then got tired of all the similar sounding music. I found Shiina Ringo's music around that time, and although I wasn't blown away the first time I listened to it, I could sense something different and interesting about her and her tunes that I liked.

Making a long story short, after downloading some of her music I got heavily addicted to it. The end. lol

UTADA HIKARU

Well this quite a standard pick for these kind of lists. Utada Hikaru is basically the queen of J-Pop. Or at least used to be. She has been taking a lot of breaks recently so hasn't been around making songs for a while but even so, her popularity is still meteoric. Not only that but the influence and impact she had on Japanese music when she appeared was immense. Anyone who begins to like Japanese music and starts looking for more will inevitably pass through her at some point.

Although it's not uncommon for Japanese girls to become a hit artist at young ages such as 14 etc, she not only did that but absolutely took it by storm. She has a smooth and soulful voice uncharacteristic of girls that age and also Japanese people in general, especially of those times, where this modern brand of R'n'b was virtually non-existent. You could say that Utada Hikaru was the reason for the popularity this type of music enjoys nowadays in Japan. If you look for artists before her that who may have sung that style of R'n'b, chances are that your search will end empty handed. There still probably isn't anyone that does it as nicely as her, although I can't really say for sure as I don't listen to new artists that much.....

KIMURA KAELA
Kimura Kaela is has a nice balance between rock and pop and doesn't it tip too far onto one side and so draws fans from followers of both genres. Although she initially became popular among teen girls with simple pop tunes she steadily evolved and experimented with her music.

Although she's not an extraordinarily amazing talent, her tunes are simple and pleasant to listen to and good to turn on when you just want to casually hear some music.

However, she does have a few fast paced tracks that pump me up, and some mellow songs that make me feel a bit melancholic, so some credit should be given to her as a vocalist.

She is also a very down to earth person and friendly person and is often joking around on tv shows when she appears. Oh and she's cute. lol

NAKASHIMA MIKA
Nakashima Mika was one of the first Japanese singers that I started liking. She has a very beautiful voice that can make me feel very relaxed. She usually sings a lot of slow songs backed with piano after a stint at rock music for the film "Nana" she also delved into those types of tune slightly afterwards too. That's probably what she's most well known for in the West. I've heard that there are lots of fans of that movie and the original manga series. Anyway, she did those songs greatly too in my opinion. I really enjoyed them and the few others rock songs that she has done. They were probably the starting point for me beginning to look to that genre for new music actually.

She has had numerous hit songs, and one especially called "Yuki no Hana" (Flower of Snow) is regarded a classic J-Pop tune. It has been covered countless times by many different people, including men (despite being a song from female perspective), Korean people, Korean men, and lots of others.

Well I would've liked to embed the song but all of them have been blocked from doing that by the uploaders so here a link instead...

UA
UA's stage name holds the meaning of both 'flower' and 'death' in the African language of Swahili. She is renown for her husky voice and has dabbled with many different genres, including Dub, Jazz, R&B, Folk and Ethnic inspired music. If I was to compare her music to someone in Western music, I would have to say it's something similar to Bjork, so lots experimental shit with strange vocal noises that don't make much sense. lol For this reason she may not be everyone's cup of tea.

However, when she does sing normally, she does it excellently and very beautifully (as does Bjork). For some reason I don't listen to her music as often as I think, but when I do, I'm always (well usually) get sucked into her musical world.

Japanese Boy band

#10: GENERATIONS

Male idol group EXILE has had a huge impact on the J-pop industry, so it came as no surprise that the members of the group would foster young talent on their label and use their extensive reach to support the next generation of idol singers. Seven member dance group GENERATIONS has received a nice boost from their appearances with EXILE TRIBE, a supergroup made up of members of the EXILE family including the original group and J Soul Brothers, and they're already doing a fantastic job with their start off singles. The group is still new, having only debuted officially at the end of last year, but their work thus far shows plenty of potential and a lot to look forward to when they release their debut album! To get a taste of what GENERATIONS has to offer, listen to "Love You More," "Brave it Out," and "Animal."

#9: Sexy Zone

Sexy Zone is one of the newest up-and-coming groups from Johnny's and Associates, the talent agency responsible for putting together the majority of Japan's leading male idol groups, and though they only currently have one studio album out, it's not too early to get really excited about this group's potential. Their debut album one Sexy Zone and all four of their singles have easily charted number one on Japan's Oricon charts, and group leader Nakajima Kento is already a young veteran in the industry from his work with Johnny's Jr. groups, most notably B.I. Shadow. The group's name and performance style is inspired by the smooth moves of Michael Jackson, and time will tell if they'll be able to live up to the performance standards of their idol. To get in their zone, try "Sexy Zone," Real Sexy," and "Lady" a listen.

#8: Kanjani8

Before J-pop became the mainstream music of Japan, music lovers enjoyed "enka," the genre of ballad music inspired by traditional Japanese singing dominated postwar Japan. Enka is still a very popular genre with the older generations in Japan, and also has a presence in modern music among the bands who bring elements of it into their own style. Idol group Kanjani8 is known as Japan's prominent modern enka performers due to how they blend in the old-fashioned sensibility into their contemporary pop rock sound. The seven member group currently has seven studio albums out, and all of their single releases have charted within Oricon's top five. Want some of their greatest numbers to get into? Check out "Kan Fu Fighting," "Musekinin Hero," and "ER."

#7: NEWS

I always seem to fall in love the hardest with the groups that lose their members such as K-pop/J-pop group TVXQ/Tohoshinki which split into two groups after a major label dispute. It was difficult for us NEWS fans to watch as several of our favorite members of the group dropped out to pursue other opportunities, although luckily most still are active in the industry. On the other hand, NEWS is still as fantastic as ever as a four-member group, and their subunit Tegomass featuring members Masuda and Tegoshi has been responsible for several amazing releases over the past few years. It really does pay to stand by the groups you love, even if they go through line-up changes; they may surprise you with how well they carry on! For some of their strongest singles, listen to "Chankapana," "Hoshi o Mezashite," and "Kibo."

#6: Hey! Say! JUMP

Back in 2007, fans were thrilled to hear that Johnny's Entertainment was embarking on their largest idol project to date, named Hey! Say! JUMP in honor of the members' hometown of Heisei, and the nine member group is still going strong five years later! The group regularly performs with all its members, but also has a sub-unit system in place to assist in their promotions and appearances. The Hey! Say! 7 division is made up of the group's four youngest members, while Hey! Say! BEST features the five oldest members, including group leader Kota Yabu. Hey! Say! JUMP currently has two studio albums out, both of which debuted at number one with Oricon. For some of their best singles, listen to "Ultra Music Power," "OVER," and "Hitomi no Screen."

#5: Kis-my-Ft2

Like GENERATIONS and Sexy Zone, Kis-my-ft2 are still new to the industry, but they did such a stellar job with their start off releases and pre-debut work with Johnny's Jr. that they easily became one of my favorite bands in a short amount of time. They have two full length albums out, including this year's Good Ikuze!, and both have gone on to do incredibly well on the charts, launching Kis-my-ft2 as one of the highest selling male groups of 2012-2013 as well as the first artist to debut at the Tokyo Dome, one of Japan's most coveted concert arenas. For some of Kis-my-ft2's best work, listen to "My Resistance -Tashikana Mono-," "WANNA BEEEE!!!" and "Everybody Go."

#4: SMAP

The 90s were my favorite years for English- language music thanks to the brief rise of both girl groups and boy groups at that time including my personal favorites NSYNC, the Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, and Destiny's Child. Japanese boy bands also had a major surge of popularity in the 90s, especially thanks to the introduction of SMAP, one of Johnny Entertainment's most celebrated idol groups. After debuting in 1991, the group went on to release a whooping twenty-one studio albums, and are still producing excellent music to this day if their consistent string of number one singles is any indication. In fact, many fans point to the breakout success of SMAP as the reason Johnny's Entertainment and other similar talent agencies are now staples in the J-pop music industry. For a sample of SMAP's considerable catalog, try "Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana," "Aoi Inazuma," and "This is Love."

#3: KAT-TUN

J-pop tends to be a little bit on the sugary side, so it's always a nice change of pace to have a group that embraces a rock edge from time to time. KAT-TUN (pronounced similarly to the English word "cartoon") has an excellent balance of pop and rock in their music, and their six studio albums each make for great listens, even if you're not a big fan of the pop genre. KAT-TUN also does a lot of promotional and entertainment work through television and radio appearances and their very own show KAT-TUN Sekaiichi dame na yoru!, which makes them one of the easiest J-pop groups to get to know and learn more about. This year they also gained the special distinction of being the second artist in Japan to reach the number one position on the Oricon chart for twenty consecutive singles! For some of their most addictive numbers, try "Don't U Ever Stop," "Real Face," and "Love Yourself."

#2: EXILE

As one of the groups that got me into the Japanese male idol genre, EXILE holds a special place in my heart. I heard them for the first time on the Street Fighter IV OST singing the English-language theme "The Next Door (Indestructible)," and the track ended up being so infectious that I immediately looked EXILE up to hear more of their catalog. I almost had a heart attack of joy over the fact that they had a grand total of fourteen members and could still manage to command a stage without making it look too crowded. They've remained one of my favorite J-pop/R&B groups over the years, and I, like many of their fans, am sad that the time has come for founding member Hiro to retire.  For some of EXILE's greatest numbers, look into "EXILE PRIDE," "Tada...Aitakute," and "Lovers Again."

#1: Arashi

When it comes to male idols in Japan, Arashi stands at the top of the pack. They've been named the most popular artist active in Japan by Oricon for three consecutive years, and every one of their major releases, including their eleven studio albums and forty-one singles, have landed in Oricon's top five. All of their singles since 2004 have charted number one, even when challenged by the biggest names in the industry. And putting all of their statistical achievements aside, their sound is simply infectious, enjoyable, and exemplary of what good pop music is all about, so if you're new to the male idol genre, Arashi should be among your first groups to check out. Some of their best singles include "Monster," Calling," and "Troublemaker," but they've got an extensive catalog that it's hard to choose favorites!
